Issues after installing using "Run as Administrator"

After installing from a limited account using the "Run as Administrator" option, I find the following issues:

    1. The TeamSpec add-in is only availble for the Administrator profile, meaning no other users of the machine can access it. I tried manually adding the add-in to my primary account's Word profile, but Word reports the referenced COM add-in TeamSpec.dll.manifest is not an add-in (though that's the file referenced in the Administrator's Word profile).

    2. When I run Word as an Administrator and click the TeamSpec ribbon, the "Add TFS Connection" button is disabled. How can I connect to a TFS server? The only enabled ribbon buttons are "TeamSpec Skins" and "Help".

    Thanks for your assistance.

Could issue #2 be caused by TeamSpec's inability to connect with the activation service? Our company recently installed new firewall/web-filtering proxy software that is preventing TeamSpec from accessing the activation web service.

    Hello,

We are working on repro'ing issue 1 from your original post.  I can start to address issue 2...

There are two reasons that TeamSpec may not be available:

    1. The trial period has expired.  TeamSpec comes with a 90 day trial period.  If you cannot access the activation service (due to firewall or no connection to the internet) the trial period is for only 30 days.
    2. If you are running word in compatability mode for Office 2003 (or have opened a word 2003 document). In this case word disables the use of Word Content Controls that we require to run.  When trying to access these features, Word will throw all sorts of ugly exceptions, so we must disable TeamSpec in this case.

It sounds as if option 1 may be what you are running into.  When did you originally install TeamSpec?

    Cheers,
    ~Joe

Re: Issues after installing using "Run as Administrator"

    JBuys -

Compatibility mode was the culprit for the inability to add a TFS server. The default document format was set to Office 97-2003. After saving the document in docx format, I was able to add the server and a project.

Now, if we can get original issue #1 sorted, I'll be all set. :-)

    Thanks for the assistance.
